TCF Canada writing: format, scoring and strategy
3 tasks in 60 minutes, out of 20. You need 10 for NCLC 7 in this section alone — and every section is judged separately.
The format
3 tasks in 60 minutes, marked out of 20. NCLC 7 is 10/20.
Tâche 1 is a short message from personal experience. Tâche 2 is a factual account or report. Tâche 3 asks you to compare two short texts and produce an argued synthesis — the one that separates candidates.

Three things that actually move this score
Plan for three minutes, check for three
People who skip planning write themselves into a corner around word 120. The final check should look for four things only: verb endings, agreement, accents, and que.
Structure is worth more than vocabulary
An introduction, two arguments each with an example, a contrast, and a real conclusion. Signal each with a connector so the marker can see the shape without hunting for it.
Tâche 3 is a synthesis, not an opinion essay
You must use both source texts. Answers that ignore one and simply argue a view lose marks however well written.
The mistake that costs most people marks
Writing well but ignoring part of the instruction. Task completion is marked separately and heavily — missing one required element costs more than several grammar slips.
Remember it is judged on its own
NCLC 7 must be met in writing separately from the other three skills — you cannot make up a weak writing score with a strong one elsewhere. If writing is your weakest section, it is the only section that currently matters.
