The format
3 tasks in about 12 minutes with an examiner, marked out of 20. NCLC 7 is 10/20.
Tâche 1 is an unprepared exchange about you. Tâche 2 is a role-play where you ask the questions. Tâche 3 is a monologue defending a point of view.

Three things that actually move this score
In Tâche 2, count your questions
The task is measured in questions asked. Candidates lose marks by explaining their situation instead of interrogating the examiner. Prepare five: price, dates, location, conditions, next step.
Repair in French, never in silence
Excusez-moi, je cherche le mot is what a fluent person says. Silence and English both cost far more than the pause.
Record yourself and listen back once
It is unpleasant and it is the single fastest way to find out that your speaking is not where you assumed.
The mistake that costs most people marks
Preparing speaking by reading model answers silently. Speaking is the only skill that cannot be practised passively, and it is the one that most often decides the result.
Remember it is judged on its own
NCLC 7 must be met in speaking separately from the other three skills — you cannot make up a weak speaking score with a strong one elsewhere. If speaking is your weakest section, it is the only section that currently matters.
